Hey, I'm Will Anglin. I am currently a sophomore at Western, pursuing a degree in both Outdoor Leadership and Art Education. I also work for the Wilderness Pursuits program as a rock climbing guide. I was born in South Carolina and then moved around a bunch, but am most recently from Sykesville, Maryland. Right now though, Gunnison is definitely home! I love the Gunnison Valley, there is so much to do. Sure, we don't have a mall, but even if we did you wouldn't even have time to go. You'll be too busy charging chest deep powder, mountain biking at Hartman's, paddling the Taylor, having an Epic in the Black Canyon, cranking at the Skyland boulders, and of course...studying (thats why you go to school right?). Oh yeah, the professors like to play too, it's not uncommon to run into your teachers up at the mountain or even out in the desert climbing sandstone towers. Western is truly an amazing place to play and learn. Free the Heel, Free the Mind!
This year I couldn’t afford a pass to the mountain and getting into the backcountry with a snowboard is tedious at best, and so I have been converted, to the Holy Church of Telemark. My friend Kyle and I had never tele-skied before so we rented tele setups from Wilderness Pursuits and did some short laps on a small hill near CB South just to get the feel of it. A few days later we went up to Snodgrass mountain to drop knees in some powder. It was phenomenal. Tele skiing is the best of both worlds, The flow of snow boarding and the utility of skiing. Moral of the story: Go Tele-skiing, just try it. Be careful though, one of my roommates just tore her PCL, Tele bindings don’t have DIN settings, they just stay on.
