Hello! My name is Felicia Bright. I am a psychology and a sociology major from Woodland Park, Colorado. I came in as a freshman with credits, so I'm on the fast track and will be graduating in three years! Not that I want to leave, that's just how it panned out. I love being outside, just laying around soaking up the sun with my friends and my dog, Icon. My words of wisdom: When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade! Always look on the bright side!

Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

I do realize that it is no longer the holiday season, but this popular Christmas Jingle seemed fitting. Snow! And lots of on the ground here! This is a winter wonderland for sure!

The skiing is perfect! (Or snowboarding, whatever floats your boat!) Anywhere you go, you won’t be disappointed. Even Cranor Hill (a smaller area that is “cute”) is seeing some great conditions. I personally, haven’t ventured into the back country. If you like deep powder though, this is it! The creme de la creme (if I spoke French). There are some cautionary announcements to those going into the back country, such as avalanche warnings.

Which reminds me, Wilderness Pursuits, a great group on campus that does oodles of outdoor related activities for the student body, is hosting a bucket full of back country safety courses. A good idea, if you ask me.

I do rather enjoy the HUGE snowman on campus, he’s a good 10 feet tall!

Have a safe and happy winter!

Ramen Noodle Cookbook!

About this time every year people get tossed into a fizzy (yes, I said “fizzy”) over what to get who. I’ll admit, I am one of the “fizzy” people. I get so overly concerned about what to get everyone. Having recently found the love of my life, I have learned a new lesson I wish to pass on.

A very embarrassing part of Christmas is getting someone something they don’t want. Which is what I did for Christopher, normally, people just smile and thank you anyway. Not Christopher, he told me I should use it, the “it” being the gift. I must have looked stunned because he proceeded to tell me that he appreciated the thought, but in general, the “it” wasn’t his thing.

So before you go out to get what you think someone might like, ask them what they realistically want. I told my little brother I wanted a pair of socks. Realistically, and in his price range, I do need some socks. So, once you finally figured out what will work so you can avoid embarrassment I’d like to point on one gift that is just perfect for any college student: 101 Things to do With Ramen Noodles. I purchased the cookbook on Amazon.com for Christopher’s sister and her fiancée.

It’s so exciting I must tell everyone about it!

The table of contents lists soups, salads, beef, chicken, pork, seafood, “family favorites” (whatever that means), and vegetarian entrees. There are well over 70 different recipes, including Lasagna! (Which is in the “family favorites” section).

There are other 101 Things to do Cookbooks including; cake mix (which there are 2 101 cookbooks for), slow cookers (again there are 2 of the books), potatoes, BBQ, tortillas, and casseroles. I’m sure there are more, those are the ones listed in the back of the Ramen Cookbook =)

Happy Eating!

What happens when you get married? The Cut Version

So, I did something kind of unexpected; I got married.

If you decide to just get married in a court house in Colorado, a few things you need to know; 1. It takes like 10 minutes, 2. You have to raise your right hand and swear (on a stack of phonebooks) that all the information that you provided to the lady behind the computer is accurate, 3. You have to sign the marriage licence (in the state of Colorado you can marry yourselves, you don’t need a licensed person), and 4. If you’re female, there is a lot of work to do.

We’re still having the ceremony in June, but I’m glad we got this out of the way. Now in June it’s all about the party. None of this name change stuff or car insurance or health insurance… ladies, you’re in for a fun couple of weeks.

But the best part of all was that night; I’m not going into all the details (sorry?), but Christpher did surprise me with a night at the Broadmoor! What a wonderful place! I think I should live there and have good fun. I miss that bed. A California King! White on rice, is all I have to say.

But being married in college hasn’t made my college life any more difficult, yet. I don’t anticipate that it will either. Rather, I do hope that this “blog” might

                                                            Inspire

people who aren’t going to college because they’re married. I swear it’s possible. I don’t have kids though, so I can’t help you there. But ask around, I know of a couple of people who have kids and two jobs, yet they still make it work.

Unavoidable Conflicts

I will admit it, I’m a passive person when it comes to my own affaris. What can I say? I don’t like conflict AT ALL!!!

However, it seems that every once in awhile a little conflict is needed. My newest unaviodable conflict is with a roommate. This, it would seem, is a hot topic because conflicts are coming up all the time between roommates. Some of us have never had a roommate before. I haven’t. So, my plan of action is to sit down with her with my pen and paper so I can write things down I want to say so I will remember. I’m going to let her do all the talking first and I’m just going to write. Then I’m going to let the weight off my shoulders.

Of course, there is no “easy” way, or “nice” way, to do this. But for the sake of this relationship working out, this small conflict needs to happen.

My advice: Don’t let the little things build up on you. They’re driving me nuts and I know I’m blowing things out of proportion, but yeah…. If you have an issue, no matter how small, tell them!!!!

Good luck to you in all of your unaviodable conflicts!

eveR wondeR… oN thE randoM notE

So the purpose of this “blog” is to make us all think. In college, we’re supposed to think (speaking of which I hate that saying right there!) So take this journey with me, if you will, it’ll be like an episode of the Magic School Bus (I feel old just metioning that) I’ll be Ms. Frizzle…

French was the official language spoken in England for over 600 years, by the way.

In some cases I like to think of myself as a liberal, but in the traditional sense of the word, not the political stigma we’ve attatched to it. “For Change” was the original meaning of that word. In that context; I’d like to think we’re all liberals. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t we try to leave the world a better place than when we entered it? If that particular thought had been around back in the day, would we have to worry about that quite as much. But heres a secret about that statement, you can’t change the past, the best thing to do is adapt and move on as best as possible. So, as my fellow liberals, I challenge you this, how will you leave the world a better place?

Here is another aside: McDonald’s is the world’s largest distributer of toys.

Speaking of McDonald’s there are over 31 million of them in the world and only 28,198 Subways in the world. I ask you, what wrong with that picture? America has most recently gone some sort of health kick, that really should have been done year ago (but no one asked me). I digress, whats wrong with that picture?

Fast Fact: Salmon can jump up to six feet high.

Don’t you need feet and legs to jump? Oh well…

My next point, if I really had one, is odd state laws? Who thought of them? And why have they yet to be removed? For example…

Hawaii: It’s illegal to own a mongoose without a permit.

Minnesota: It’s illegal to tease skunks.

New Meixco: Raton: Illegal for a woman to ride horseback down a public street wearing a komono.

Utah: Birds have the right of way on all highways.

But I’m done picking on other states.

“Taxi” is spelled exactly the same in English, French, German, Swedish, Portuguese, and Dutch.

See? I’m educating you. All the things you didn’t know you wanted to know or needed to know.

Confused as to what the purpose of this blog was? Thats okay, so am I… So am I…

Sometimes you just have to know when too much is too much…

I’ve never been one of those people who can say “no.” People know that, they try not to take advantage of it, but it’s going to happen at some point or another. We “can’t-say’no” people understand and accept that.

However;

This semester I took on a heavier academic load and thought to myself, “Maybe my academics are what I should be getting myself into.” My outside activities do mean a lot to me and I will continue to participate in most of them.

But;

I do need to take it down a notch, something college has taught me; you can’t do everything like you did back in high school. Don’t spread yourself too thin, you might not be able to pull it all back together. Good for you if you can, but I know I’ve learned that I need to pull myself together a little bit and really dive into one or two aspects of my life I really am passionate about.

So good luck to all of you who can’t say no… it’s not an easy task to do, but once you do, you’ll feel better.

A Great Surprise!!!

I think I’m the luckiest girl alive! I’ve been seeing my guy for a bit over a month now… super exciting. I went a spent the 3 day weekend with him and his family. Hold on….

Back track…

My weeks go by so slow, he doesn’t live here, so I don’t see him that often. The weekends go by soooooo fast! 3 days were over and done with before I knew what even happened! That goes for all the weekends, for that matter!

Anyway, getting back on track!

He told me that when I went home I had to go to my room and stay in there. He was working on a surprise for me, “owhere in Gunnison delivers.” Whatever that was supposed to mean. He told me that while I was in my room my friends “Melons”, Devan, and Leah were going to be setting up the surprise for me. Again, whatever that meant!

Again… lets back track!

On my drive home, he had me text my location to him so he could “time it just right”

Again… lets get back on track!

I was in my room, cleaning it (it was very dirty). He called me and and told me “Okay, I lied to you.” There was a dramatic pause, at which point I didn’t know what to think! Then he walks in my room… so sweet! He drove 3.5 hours behind me to see me! While still keeping far enough behind me so I wouldn’t see him!

Another aside!

He told me he had Friday off and he MIGHT be able to come down on Thursday night and leave Friday afternoon. Turns out, he has the whole week off!

Ladies, get yourself a man like this!

Guys, take notes, I’ve found myself a winner!

If I Were a Mole, I’d Fix This Problem

So, apparently someone cut a huge main line in Gunnison. So right now we have no cell phone service! No one does! I never realized how attached to the thing I was until I realized I might not be able to call my boyfriend tonight… sigh.

My hope is, and I have my fingers crossed on this one folks, is that, if anything, cell phones will back up and working in time for everyone moving in on Friday! I really hope its before that though.

Like the title says, if I were a mole, but then again no, if knew how to fix it, I’d do it.

I’ll bet that the person(s) who cut the line have no idea how bad it really is, or they feel really bad… The sooner it gets fixed, the better, naturally.

Que Paso Mi Perrito Caliente?

In case you don’t speak spanish, What’s up my hotdog?

What’s been going on in the Wonderful World of Gunnison? Once upon a time…

I live in these apartments across from the hospital, and when the flight for life chopper comes in to bring yet another wounded soul to the Gunnison Valley Hospital my apartment shakes. It’s like something off of Cops, it’s like a shake down. Lights are flashing in through my windows and I can hear people running around because they want to see what’s going on. At first I thought this was going to be annoying, but now, I’m glad I have this service and I’m so close to the hospital. It’s like what Jack Handy says, “When I see an old lady cross the street and fall, I want to laugh. But then I think; What if I were an ant and she fell on me. Then it isn’t so funny anymore.” Something like that.

But wait there’s more… I’ve decided that despite all that has happened within my romantic attachments, that time knows no limits, if its going to happen its going to happen. People always say, “Don’t rush things,” or my personal favorite, “If it hasn’t happened by now, its never going to happen.” Well who is to say when something is supposed to happen or not happen, thats why we date?  Am I right? What’s the point in your opinion? Are you looking for your long lost love? Are you must looking for a sugar daddy? Are you just wasting time? If you haven’t figured it out, I am seeing someone new… his name is Christopher (not Robbins).

And yet, there’s still more…. School starts soon. Oh joy? Ready to get a move on, yet at the same time I’m frightened. I’ve been in school my whole life, I know nothing other than school. What am I going to do in 2 years? I’m I going to go onto grad school and still be in school, or do I have to hold my breath and plung head first into the “real world” (not the TV show, although, as a youngin’ I thought it’d be neat to be on that show. It wasn’t until I learned that it was staged that I began to have qualms? If I just gave away a Santa secret, I’m sorry to burst your Real World bubble.) I’m taking all psychology and sociology classes, which is neat-o. If you’re around, say hola.

Let see…. my roommate got “inked” and I got my belly button repericed. Why do we do these things to ourselves? Its painful and rarely do people get pained in places that are visible to others. If you want someone to see your new work of body art (aka Pain) you have to lift up, roll up, push down, and whatever else you do with clothing, to show people. I don’t understand. And why isn’t getting inked or pierced like getting your car fixed? I mean in the sense of “flat rate.” No matter where you go, it will always be the same price to get things done, and they will be done close to the same way. Sigh, I live in a delusional world full of rainbows and sunshine; little teacups made out of flowers; and wall paper that tastes like snausberries (or however you would spell that)

Until next time sports fans… love your neighbor, because, all you need is love.

Harry Potter!!!!!!!

The best movie of the summer. The best two weeks of any Harry Potter fan’s summer. First we had the movie come out two days ahead of schedule, the 11th as opposed to the 13th. I saw it at the Imax theater. If you’ve never seen a movie in the Imax theater, I highly suggest it. We have an Imax theater in Colorado Springs, so worth it. The crowd on opening day of Harry Potter was excellent. They booed at Professor Umbridge when needed, the clapped when things went right, and cheered when Cho and Harry kissed!

So, more detail… The movie followed the book pretty well. The one part I’m dissapointed that they left out was that Ron and Hermonie become Prefects. They kind of touched on it when Hermonie told Ron she’d make the introductions, but unless you were really paying attention and knew that that’s what they were talking about, you’d be lost and never make that connection and think it was just a line.

On quite the other hand, that book was super angry. I wasn’t too sure if the movie would just be a whole bunch of anger and darkness, but they did a great job of balancing all of the emotions out. And if you have not read the book or seen the movie, but plan to; skip this next paragraph, its a major part I’m about to be sad about.

So Sirus’ death in the movie was so sudden, all of the sudden it just happened. There wasn’t too much in the end about it either. Personaly, I think they should’ve spent more time on it. I understand its hard to add more time to a movie that is already 2 and a half hours long, but oh so worth it. Perhaps on the DVD there will be deleted stuff that will work on the developement of his death more.

This movie really drew me in and held my attention. I felt the need to flip Umbridge off when need be, she was a royal pain! And I felt inspired when Dumbledoor’s army was created and they first starting practicing. There are lots of little messages that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But having seen the movie twice now, I feel that if I were to see it again, which is highly likely, I’m still going to find out more that I missed the first two times!

And watch out sports fan because the last book comes out Saturday!!!!!! To everyone not reading the book (shame on you) don’t bother the people who are, we will be unavaliable all weekend long. We will be taking the book to the bathroom with us and barely eating. No worries parents, this is quite normal for a book like this to cause forgetting-to-eat-fulness. Quite common I assure you!

Let me know what you think of the book, I need more people to discuss these goings on. And if you have anymore theories before Saturday, feel free to make them known! Happy reading tomorrow (or at mid-night!) Oh happy days, oh happy days!
